Manufactured by Kamov, the Ka-29 Helix is a naval assault and transport helicopter developed from the Ka-27 series, retaining the distinctive coaxial rotor system that eliminates the need for a tail rotor. Introduced in the 1980s, it was designed to support Soviet amphibious operations, combining troop-carrying capacity with formidable armament. With space for up to 16 fully equipped soldiers, the Ka-29 could also deploy machine guns, rockets, cannons, and guided missiles, making it a versatile battlefield helicopter model known for ruggedness and compact design optimized for shipboard use.

The principal variant is the Ka-29TB assault-transport, configured for troop insertion and fire support missions. Other Ka-27/29 family derivatives include the Ka-27PL (anti-submarine warfare) and Ka-27PS (search and rescue), but the Ka-29 remains the dedicated gunship-transport hybrid, bridging the gap between utility and attack helicopters in Kamov’s naval lineage.
