Manufactured by Kamov, the Kamov Ka-25 was a pioneering Soviet naval helicopter, introduced in the early 1960s to meet the growing demand for maritime anti-submarine warfare capabilities. Known by its NATO reporting name “Hormone,” the Ka-25 became one of the most distinctive naval helicopters of its era. Compact yet robust, this twin-turbine helicopter was designed for shipboard operations, featuring Kamov’s trademark coaxial contra-rotating rotors that eliminated the need for a tail rotor and provided excellent stability in challenging sea conditions. The Ka-25 not only symbolized Cold War Soviet naval aviation but also set new standards for specialized mission helicopters of its time.

Over its service life, several variants of the Kamov Ka-25 were developed to suit different operational needs. The Ka-25PL was the dedicated anti-submarine warfare version, equipped with sonar systems and torpedoes. The Ka-25PS served as a search and rescue platform, fitted with rescue hoists for maritime emergencies. The Ka-25BSh handled naval reconnaissance duties, while the Ka-25BT was adapted for anti-shipping missions, capable of deploying mines and carrying strike armaments. Each variant highlighted the versatility of this iconic design, making the Kamov Ka-25 an enduring subject of interest for aviation historians and collectors alike.
